Desire Lines. Addressing the Pedestrian and their access to the Jukskei River through public interest design
In this thesis, the propinquity between areas such as Dainfern and Diepsloot are explored. How the pockets between these defined urban schemes become zones of overlap amid various networks. Exploring the right to the city and how the urban goers are allowed access to these pockets.
The possibility of developing these spaces and its prospective benefits will be outlined through the principles of Public Interest Design (PIB), Placemaking and Adventure Playgrounds. Each reinforcing the ideals of ‘rights to the city’ which create a feeling of citizenship and allow for the strengthening of the overlapping networks that stand on pillars of joint interest and benefit. Finding what we share and focusing on how these commonalities can create a community between otherwise divided groups.
