The abandonment of rural areas in Galicia, Spain, has been a longstanding concern. Previous attempts to rejuvenate deserted villages focused on various strategies, but as far as the research indicates they failed to provide aid to the predominantly elderly remaining population. In response, this thesis explores themes such as village spatial organization, the causes of abandonment in Galician villages, and diverse revitalization approaches amongst others. It culminates in the development of a comprehensive masterplan for an existing abandoned village, aiming to restore it sustainably while concurrently providing assistance to its elderly residents.
