Corrivatio Aquarum. Holistic intervention generating ecological harmony through the principles of aquascaping within the Johannesburg Zoo.

Mixed-use, Water Management
Johannesburg, Gauteng

Corrivatio Aquarum, translating to the term for water basin, encapsulates the core principles and ideologies behind this project. With focus on principles drawn from biomimicry, water management and aquascaping, the project intends to generate an architecturally significant structure that embodies elements of sustainability, community and passive resource management. The intervention will aim to create greater ecological balance within the grounds of the Johannesburg Zoo and surrounding Zoo Lake area. Re-establishing a connection between the Johannesburg Zoo and its surrounding urban context. Using the building to restore the ecological balance to water moving through the site and fore fronting adaptable, low energy, passive principles of circular water management that can be scaled to a variety of architectural applications.
