Bridging Divides: Fostering the economic porosity of Soweto Country Club through public spaces.

Skills Development Centre
Pimville, Gauteng,

This research proposes transforming the Soweto Country Club into a multifunctional, inclusive landscape that promotes spatial justice and socio-economic development. It focuses on reclaiming the underused golf course roughs as spaces for skills development, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange. The intervention aims to bridge the historical divide between Pimville and Eldorado Park, two communities separated by apartheid-era planning. While the club has historic significance, its current exclusive design creates a disconnect from the surrounding vibrant township life. The study envisions spatial interventions that open the course to the public, supporting local entrepreneurs and fostering community integration. Architecture is framed not just as construction, but as a means of healing urban fragmentation and creating equitable opportunity.
