To combat the unemployment and education gap issues in South Africa, my project explores the addition of an education centre onto an existing football clubs, Linhill Celtic FC, facilities. With football being the most popular sport in the country and played by many underprivileged children, it is the perfect medium to promote the importance of education and provide resources for children to learn and develop. The education centre will provide extra lessons, resources to do homework and research, and internet connectivity and computers to children who can’t afford these items. The football club will highlight the importance of education to its players and promote the use of its education centre to all children who need help. In addition, the project redevelops Linhill Celtic’s football facilities and adds a public interface onto the site to promote social interaction, community regeneration, and address the program shortages in the surrounding areas.
