Envisioning Empowerment: Crafting a realm of learning for visually impaired scholars in Mondeor

The project focuses on designing a school for visually impaired students in Mondeor, South Africa, addressing the critical lack of such institutions in Gauteng. Through sensory analysis , the research aims to understand the unique needs of visually impaired learners. The design will prioritize sensory engagement, creating a space that enhances learning through touch, sound, and smell. Classrooms will serve as central nodes, branching out to various services, while a portion of the site will be dedicated to public spaces, fostering community involvement and an adaptive circular economy. The project seeks to balance aesthetics with functionality, exploring the integration of haptic experiences. Ultimately, the goal is to provide equal access to quality education and cultivate a sense of belonging, enriching the local context and promoting an inclusive architectural approach. Empowering scholars to find their feet in the working world.
