Are there Entertainment Spaces in Ward 67? and Designing for Equity
I come all the way from the green hills of KwaZulu Natal. I am a 21-year-old Urban and Regional Planning graduate, currently doing my Honours degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. 2020 was a challenging year and yet we persevered. I discovered that one can produce work of a high standard with fewer resources and in difficult circumstances.
My Report on Ward 67 in Johannesburg was titled: Are there Entertainment Spaces in Ward 67? The Ward is comprised of neighbourhoods such as Parktown and Yeoville. In this project, statistical data was collated for the representation of our findings. ‘Designing for Equity’ was a creative design project in which I envisaged a new development in Patterson Park, located in the north eastern suburbs. The primary intention in this project was to create a space that could accommodate a cross-section of the population. Municipal by-laws and regulations were consulted in order to determine appropriate zoning and subdivisions of plots. I also ensured that the proposed development was well integrated within the context of the existing neighbourhoods, as well as the Gauteng City-Region.
