Main Idea of UDF: Safe Environment For Student Entertainment & Learning

The proposed urban design framework for Auckland Park looks specifically at increasing permeability as well as increasing the number of public spaces that are available in the space which will encourage more students to spend their time outdoors thereby creating more eyes on the street.

The goal is also to create more public spaces that the students can enjoy whether that is spending time outside with friends, studying or just walking through the space.

The public spaces created through the design will help to bring more people out into the public realm which will increase eyes on the street and thereby increase safety and use of the public realm.

The precinct plan chose to focus on Campus Square and the two blocks of student accommodation below Kingsway Road. This area is a major node within Auckland Park, situated next to a BRT stop as well as being the main shopping node and where some students live
in the area.

The new additions to the area are more high rise student accommodation to the South as well as making Campus Square more permeable and pedestrian friendly. The student accommodation was designed for the spaces where students could have access.
