Main Idea of UDF: i’Walk Ya Manje

The Urban design framework seeks to improve and better the conditions set out in the analysis of Project 1.1 of a poor working environment through the allocation of space dedicated towards informality, hence, an informal street for traders.

As part of the design intervention, we took inspiration from Warwick Junction in Durban by creating a storage facility at ‘Illenke’ the taxi rank. For the integration from the place of work to place of play and live, and vice-versa into the corridor and from the corridor.

This detailed plan facilitates the work of David Harvey, “The Right to the City” empowering and encouraging inclusivity for all informal traders as they can work, play and live in the city without restrictions. The informal street for trading has been created for them on De Bruyn street and low-income housing created on the corridor for them to be able to stay

Work, play and live is encouraged in the detailed plan as it connects
informal traders who work around Park station, Wanderers , De Bruyn and De Villiers to the newly created low-income mixed developed houses on the corridor.
